The Southwestern Oregon Community College softball team had a perfect run through Washington over the weekend, sweeping a trio of doubleheaders.
The Lakers started against Blue Mountain, winning games by 10-0 and 13-0 scores Friday. Marisa Peters pitched a five-inning no-hitter in the opener and Jessica Hernandez pitched a two-hitter in the nightcap.
The Lakers, meanwhile, pounded out 13 hits in the first game, including three each by Alyssa Martinez and Emily Greenwood and two each by Marisa Coleman and Jesse Blanton. Martinez, Peters, Blanton and Greenwood had two runs each. Two of Greenwood’s hits were doubles.
In the second game, Greenwood had two more hits, including a home run, and scored two runs. Martinez had three hits and two runs and Blanton and Jasmine Ries also had two runs.
On Saturday, the Lakers beat Walla Walla 6-2 and 10-8.
In the opener, Martinez hit a pair of solo home runs and Greenwood also hit a home run. Coleman scored two runs and Peters pitched a five-hitter.
Saturday’s nightcap became a 10-inning marathon when Walla Walla scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh to erase an 8-2 SWOCC lead.
Peters got her second win of the day, coming on in relief to get the Lakers out of the seventh inning and then pitching the final three.
Coleman hit a home run in the win and had four hits and three RBIs. Greenwood also had four hits and drove in a pair of runs and scored twice. Martinez had a triple and two singles and scored four runs.
On Sunday, the Lakers beat Columbia Basin 9-6 and 14-5. No specific details were available.
After starting the season 2-6, the Lakers now have won eight games in a row.
SWOCC opens league play at home Saturday against Mount Hood.
