The Southwestern Oregon Community College baseball team opened the season over the weekend with four games against Everett and Yakima Valley community colleges in Washington.
SWOCC finished the weekend 1-3, the highlight a comeback win in the third game of the weekend.
The Lakers trailed Yakima Valley 4-1 heading to the eighth inning, but got a run in the eighth to narrow the deficit.
In the ninth, the Lakers used a combination of walks, batters being hit by pitches, and timely hitting to score five runs on the way to a 7-4 victory.
Nick Davis led the Lakers at the plate, finishing 5-for-14 with six RBIs.
On Saturday, the Lakers lost a shootout to Everett 10-9 and fell to Yakima Valley 13-5.
Against Everett, the Lakers let an 8-1 lead get away as the Trojans scored five runs in the seventh and four in the eighth.
Riley Quinton had two hits and three runs in the loss and Davis had two hits, two runs and three RBIs. Liam Cota had a double and three RBIS and TarQuin Daley had two hits.
Later in the day, Davis drove in two more runs against Yakima Valley. Kian Johnston and Ryan Merino each had two hits.
In Sunday’s comeback win over Yakima Valley, Merino drove in two runs and Quinton and Chandler Cochran each scored twice. Bryce Moore picked up the win in relief for the Lakers.
Yakima Valley shut out the Lakers 7-0 in the final game. SWOCC had six hits but wasn’t able to generate any runs.
The Lakers host Pacific University’s JV team Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
