A former North Coos American Legion pitcher with ties to the Bay Area was drafted in the 28th round of the Major League baseball draft on Wednesday.
Renton Poole, who played for North Coos in 2014, was taken by Texas on the final day of the draft.
Poole was born in the Bay Area to a pair of South Coast graduates — his dad, Chandelle, graduated from Coquille and his mom, Lisa, from North Bend.

But Poole spent some of his high school years in Japan, where his dad was stationed in the U.S. Marine Corps, before graduating from Bloomington South High School in Indiana.
He pitched in college at Olney Central College and Indiana State University before finishing his career at Indiana University Kokomo, where he was named an honorable mention NAIA All-American earlier this week. He went 7-2 this year with a 2.28 ERA and was named the River States Conference pitcher of the year.
