A pair of fun runs are planned for the holiday week, one on Wednesday and another on Saturday.

The annual Mayor’s Firecracker 4K Run is scheduled for July 4 in Mingus Park in Coos Bay.

As usual, the event includes both a kids run on the paved walk around the pond and a 4-kilometer run that also features the park’s trails and neighboring streets.

The Firecracker Run also is the first leg of the South Coast Running Club’s Triple Crown Challenge, which also includes the upcoming Trail-n-Treat Run at South Slough (July 14) and North Bend’s July Jubilee Jaunt (July 21).

The kids run in Mingus Park, which is a little short of a mile, starts at 10 a.m. and is free for participants.

The 4K, which will follow soon after the kids run, is free for South Coast Running Club members and costs $10 for non-members. Runners who aren’t part of the club can essentially join for free for the rest of the year and get discounted entry to upcoming events because the membership fee is now $10.

Registration runs from 9 to 9:45 a.m.

For runners who want to sign up for the Triple Crown Challenge, the fee is $30 that includes entry into all three races. For Triple Crown Challenge participants, each race comes with a unique medal and the three medals also fit together to make one big medal.

People who want to sign up for the challenge can visit www.southcoastrunningclub.org or sign up at the Firecracker Run between 9 and 9:45 a.m.

Meanwhile, the Powers track and field program will host the annual White Cedar Days Run on Saturday, July 7, as part of the town’s community celebration.

Events include both 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer runs on challenging, scenic courses.

The registration and start/finish line are at the corner of Second and Fir streets in Powers.

The race begins at 9 a.m. and runners can sign up the morning of the event.

Proceeds benefit the Powers track program. The suggested donation is $10 for the 5-kilometer race and $15 for the 10K.

People can sign up in advance with a link from the event’s Facebook page, titled White Cedar Days 5/10k Run.
