Haley Buskerud throws an opponent to earn a full point on the way to winning the bronze medal during the tournament in Portland last weekend. 

Nine members of the Southwestern Oregon Community College judo program competed in the 62nd annual Obukan Judo Tournament in Portland last weekend. The tournament featured more than 325 athletes from Oregon, Washington and Idaho.

Four members of the SWOCC team brought home medals during the two-day tournament.

Liam Buskerud, age 14, won the gold medal in the boys 13-14 lightweight division, winning all his matches either by pin or throw.

Lailo Veloz, age 10, placed first in the girls 9-10 heavyweight division, winning all her matches by pin.

Conor Gore, age 14, placed second in the boys 13-14 heavyweight division.

Haley Buskerud brought home the bronze medal in the girls 11-12 lightweight division.

In the combined adult and junior kata team competition, Haley and her twin sister, Brynn, placed second.

Other competitors for Southwestern were Clayton Willett, Austin Peavyhourse, Shalendra Prasad and Ava Thomas.
