A trio of South Coast athletes won events in the TrackTown Youth League finals at Hayward Field in Eugene last weekend.
The statewide competition was the final event at Hayward Field before construction on the new stadium begins. South Coast athletes qualified at a meet in Coos Bay and kids from Coos Bay, North Bend, Bandon, Coquille, Myrtle Point, Powers and Langlois competed in the state finals.
Dalton Steers of Langlois picked up a pair of wins in the boys 11-12 age group, taking both the 100 meters and long jump. He also was third in the 400.
Scott Mickelson of North Bend won the turbo javelin in the same age group and Wyatt Smith of North Bend was third. Mickelson also was eighth in the 100.
The other South Coast winner was Chandler Wyatt of Coos Bay, who won the 400 in the boys 9-10 division.
Gage Martinez of Myrtle Point was second in the turbo javelin and third in the 400 in the 9-10 division and Tyler Senn of Bandon was third in the turbo javelin.
In the boys 7-8 age group, Brandon Stotler of North Bend was third in the 400 and Ramey Collier of North Bend was fourth in the 400. Dalton Steers of Langlois was seventh in the 100 and Theren Kendall of Myrtle Point was seventh in the long jump and eighth in the turbo javelin.
Heidi Riehl of North Bend was third in the 1,500 in the same age group, with Addison Horning of North Bend sixth.
In the boys 13-14 division, John Efraimson of North Bend was fourth in the 400 and eighth in the 1,500 and Howard Blanton of Coquille was fourth in the turbo javelin.
Trinidy Blanton of Powers was third in the turbo javelin and eighth in the 100 in the girls 13-14 age group.
Marley Petrey of Bandon was fourth in the 1,500 in the girls 9-10 age group, one spot in front of Ada Millet of Coquille. Melanie Lambson of Coquille was third in the long jump, with Millet fourth and Petrey eighth. Millet also was eighth in the 400 (.01 seconds ahead of Petrey) and Lambson eighth in the 100.
In the girls 11-12 age group, Lily Mullins of North Bend was fifth in the long jump.
