A trio of Bay Area swimmers qualified for the upcoming state championships with their efforts at last weekend’s B/C Championships at North Bend Municipal Pool.

The meet was a chance for swimmers to meet the A standards required to participate at state in different events. Swimmers could only enter events they had not yet qualified for state in.

Aaron Hutchins of the Gold Coast Swim Team qualified for state in the 200-yard breaststroke, the 50-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard freestyle in the 13-year-old age group.

Mavrick Macalino met the qualifying standards for both the 100 backstroke and 500 freestyle for the South Coast Aquatic Team, in the 14-year-old age group.

Matthew Barnts of the Gold Coast Swim Team qualified in the 100 individual medley in the 8-and-under age group.

Both teams had a number of swimmers participate in the meet trying to improve their times or qualify for state.

CAT Invitational

Meanwhile, nine South Coast Aquatic Team swimmers traveled to Corvallis last weekend for the CAT Invitational, one of the bigger club meets in the state.

Finley Cheal, Natalie Cheal, Bella Jones and Ryan Trichler all won at least one event in the meet and Gavyn Tatge had a pair of runner-up finishes. Apryl Paquette, Makenna Roberts, Rio Trichler and Sierra Trichler also participated in the events.

Results for both events are included in today’s Community Scoreboard.
