COOS BAY — Cascade Christian’s boys fought off a tough challenge from tournament newcomer Irrigon to beat the Knights 54-45 in the fourth-place game at the Class 3A state tournament Saturday at Marshfield High School.
The Knights led by seven in the second quarter before Cascade Christian narrowed the deficit to 19-18 at halftime. Cascade Christian pulled away in the third quarter and led by as many as 14 late.
Joel McLemore had 24 points and Tyler Cochran added 10 for the Challengers. Ben Dunn had 11 rebounds and six points.
Eric Carillo had ad points and Johnny Phillips 12 for Irrigon, which returns to the northeastern part of the state with a trophy after making its first trip to state since moving up from Class 2A a few years ago. Phillips and Keith Flemming each had 10 rebounds.
