Reedsport’s baseball team entered the new week still unbeaten and on the verge of the Sunset Conference title.
After dominant wins over Gold Beach and Toledo last week, the latter a near no-hitter, the Brave were 10-0 in league and 21-0 overall. Reedsport had clinched a share of the league title with the first chance to clinch outright coming Tuesday at second-place Bandon (results were not available by press time).
Reedsport finishes the league season at Waldport on Thursday at Waldport and will play Far West League champion North Bend at Clyde Allen Field at noon Saturday as both teams stay sharp for their playoff opener next Wednesday.
Reedsport beat Gold Beach 14-1 in five innings last Tuesday. Pitchers Jacob Chaney and Kyle Barnes limited the Panthers to one hit.
Marc Chaney had three runs and Jacob Chaney scored twice. Griffin Lavigne and Nick Glover each had two RBIs.
Then on Thursday, Dallas McGill pitched a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts in an 8-0 win over Toledo. The Boomers got their only hit in the seventh inning. Glover had a pair of doubles and scored three runs and Mitchell Rohde had a double, a run and an RBI.
Reedsport is No. 2 in the Class 2A power rankings, which is significant because if the Brave can stay there, they would not have a road game in the playoffs and could advance to the state championship for the second straight year with three home wins in a row.
