ROSEBURG — Oregon State Police are conducting an investigation regarding the discovery of a human skull.
According to an OSP press release, Oregon Department of Transportation workers were by Interstate 5 near exit 124 northbound doing maintenance operations June 6 at 8 a.m.
"In the course of their work, ODOT personnel located human remains and immediately contacted OSP," according to the press statement.
State troopers and detectives arrived at the scene "and with the assistance of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office medical examiner confirmed that it was human remains. The remains consisted of a human skull."
Douglas County Sheriff's Office personnel then sent Search and Rescue workers to help search for more remains and did not find any.
"OSP detectives are continuing the investigation and are requesting that anyone with information call 541-440-3334 and reference OSP case number SP18-206360."
In addition to the sheriff's office, search and rescue personnel plus ODOT, Roseburg Police Department officers helped.
"This is an ongoing investigation and no further information is available for release," according to OSP.
