My faith in the future of democracy in America received a big boost recently. Members of Americans for Prosperity, Oath Keepers, People Against the NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act of 2012) and the progressive community joined to offer testimony to our commissioners on why communities need to get their representatives to protest the act, which allows any president to designate American citizens here or abroad as enemy combatants, and to hold them in a military prison without charges, indefinitely.
This is an issue all Americans need to be informed about. Regardless of their political ideology, anyone who takes an unbiased look at the state of representative democracy in the U.S. will conclude that our democratic values are being undermined by actions of the federal government. We can defeat them only by doing so together, despite our differences.
