On April 22, Zonta Club of Coos Bay held its third annual free science, technology, engineering and math STEM Fair, “Girls Rock,” for girls grades 3-8. Over 80 girls from throughout Coos County participated. The STEM Fair was one of many Earth Day March for Science events.

Zonta would like to thank local women and men who volunteered their time, including Hansen’s Veterinarian; Southwestern Oregon Community College’s fire-science, welding, computer systems, criminal justice, and EMT programs; Oregon Institute of Marine Biology; South Slough Reserve; South Coast Physical Therapy; North Bend HS; South Coast ESD; North Bend Airport; The Boys and Girls Club; HMWGF Accounting; Bay Area Hospital; and Dyer Engineers.

Over 20 stations allowed the girls opportunities for hands on experiments and interactive games in fields of medicine, engineering, aviation, math and science. Especially popular was operating the fire hoses and the photo booth featuring props used in STEM careers.
