COOS COUNTY — Oregon State Police have released the name of a Winston man who was killed in a head-on crash on Highway 42 on Wednesday.

Robert Woldt, 81, was driving westbound 4 miles east of the highway's intersection with U.S. Highway 101 when for unknown reasons his vehicle crossed the center lane and collided head-on with another vehicle.

He died as a result of the crash.

The driver of the other vehicle was Rose Middendorff, 45, of Coos Bay. Law enforcement said she was seriously injured and taken to Bay Area Hospital where she was then flown to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland for further treatment.

Middendorff's passenger, 61-year-old Karen Patterson, of Coos Bay, was taken to Bay Area Hospital with serious injuries.
