March 1, 1935 - March 2, 2019
Peggy Sue Brimhall, 85, formerly of Coos Bay, passed away March 2, 2019 in Springfield, from lung cancer. Celebration of life services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 8 at Green Acres Community Church, 93512 Green Acres Lane in Coos Bay, with a potluck following.
Peggy was born March 1, 1935 in Reeds Spring, Mo., to Calvin and Dola (Hammer) Luscombe. At the age of 2, the Luscombes moved from Missouri to Klamath, Calif. After Peggy’s older sister tragically passed away a year later, Peggy went to live in Southern California with her Aunt Thelma and Uncle Paul. She remained very close with her aunt and uncle. The Luscombes made the decision to move to Coos Bay in 1940, bringing Peggy home to live with them for good. Peggy and her younger brother grew up in Green Acres, attending school there.
Peggy married Jim Walton at the age of 15. Together they had two children: Scott and Susie. During this time, she was a waitress. Her favorite restaurant job being the Top Hat in Coos Bay. The marriage to Jim didn’t last; she married Harley Brimhall in March 1973. Harley and Peggy became long-haul truck drivers. Their trucking days included picking up many antiques along the way on their coast to coast trips. Many relatives got to experience these trips with them, and have many stories about her lead foot. Some of Peggy’s favorite trips were up to Alaska. They earned quite a reputation making these Alaska trips due to the hazardous ice driving conditions, not many volunteered for them. They retired in 1998 and came home to Coos Bay.
Peggy would tell you exactly what was on her mind good or bad, but she also had a very kind heart. She was known for spoiling people, mainly her grand and great-grandchildren. We made many trips to the store for more soft winter socks because another resident at the care facility would say they would “sure like to have some” and Peggy would give them hers. She loved her family. Her last wish was to make it to her 84th birthday and to be around for when her first great-great-grandchild was born. She waited until then before going home.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 46 years, Harley Brimhall of Coos Bay; son, Scott and Linda Walton of Coos Bay; granddaughter, Angela and Ravi Thomas of Springfield; grandsons, William and Becky Walton of Elmira, Luke and Amy Walton of Coquille, and Jed and Jessica Walton of Coquille. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Alexi, Omari, Wayde, Will and Rory; one great-great-granddaughter, Nayeli; along with many much loved nieces and nephews.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Patty Ann and Ray Luscombe; her daughter, Susie Campos; and one grandson, Eli Walton.
Arrangements are under the care of Green Acres Community Church, 541-267-6054.
