A potluck celebration will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday May 16, at Hog Field, Sixes River Road, to honor the life of Michael Lloyd Knapp, 67 of Langlois.
Mike was the first born son of Harold and Mary Knapp, arriving Dec. 10, 1947 in Gold Beach. He died in his home in Langlois May 7, 2015.
Mike grew up at the Knapp Ranch on Elk River in Port Orford. A series of unfortunate accidents in his childhood created a special bond between he and his great-grandmother Ella Knapp. He graduated from Pacific High School as part of the Class of 1966. Mike briefly attended Southwestern Oregon Community College and then lived in California while working in the timber industry. He was married to Marilyn King and his first two children Dan and Sandy were born. Mike returned to life on the Knapp ranches in 1974. He was a renowned cattleman and took great pride in the quality of Knapp Livestock genetics.
Mike served on the 2CJ School Board and as a local 4-H leader; he was a lifelong member of the NRA. In 2012 he was honored for his longtime service to the Curry County Soil & Water Conservation District; after joining in 1988 he served in many capacities, including as chairman of the board.

Mike was an avid sportsman; some of his greatest adventures were chasing elk in Idaho, moose and bear in Alaska, and fish on the Elk and New rivers. He loved his dogs, his cows, gardening, local history, reading and dancing.
Mike is survived by siblings, Mary Blandau, Carol Bess and Dave Knapp; sons, Dan Knapp, Matt Knapp and Adam Sullivan; daughters, Sandy Price and Amy Pettit; seven nieces and nephews; and 10 grandchildren
He was preceded in death by parents, Harold and Mary (Hale) Knapp; and wife, Mary (Evans) Knapp.
