A celebration of life service will be held for Dorothy Jean Powers, 79, of Coquille at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 26 at the Myrtle Point Baptist Church. Viewing will be from Noon until 1 p.m. Burial will be at the Roseburg National Cemetery Dec. 27.
Dorothy Jean Powers, passed away Dec. 18, 2017 at her home in Coquille, surrounded by her loving family.
Dorothy was born in Clinton, Okla., May 19, 1938, to James Orvil and Ella Pearl Stevens. She was raised on a farm being the oldest of six children and only daughter. She attended Custer City School and graduated in 1956.
Married to Billy Dean Powers in 1956, they made their first home in Anchorage, Alaska, later moving to California, Neveda and Oregon Last September they celebrated 61 years in marriage!
Dorothy has held various jobs in the secretarial field which included being an assistant in a medical office and hospital. She and Bill experienced most of their success being self employed running a gas station, country store, hardware store and an antique store. She retired at the age of 50 and they were able to travel throughout the United States, visiting family and collecting antiques.
Dorothy was all about family, and everyone was made to feel like family. She and Bill had two children, Todd and Gwenda; four grandchildren, Tina, Tiffany, Anthony, and Sean; and four great-grandchildren, TJ, Trevor, Addison and James the 8th.
Being a strong Christian, Dorothy was a servant to God and her family. She had a passion for music and played piano and organ in church for many years.
Dorothy is survived by her spouse, Bill; brothers, Vernon, JB and Norvil; two children; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Orvil and Ella Pearl Stevens; and two brothers, Jim and LeRoy.
Dorothy’s desire was for donations to Billy Graham Crusades in lieu of flowers.
