A celebration of his life will be announced later and will be held this spring or summer for Charlie Hofsess Crew, 95, of Bandon he was born March 9, 1922 in Langlois. Cremation rites have been held. He passed away Nov. 29, 2017 in Coos Bay on Velma’s birthday. Charlie married Velma Howard in 1941. They lived in Bandon until retirement, when they moved to their dream property on The Sixes River. Velma passed in 2002. Charlie lived at Pacific View for five years before his death.

Charlie was a proud veteran who fought under General Patton in World War II, serving overseas in the U.S. Army. He was a tank commander and often said that “Patton and I won the war."

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Velma; brother, James Crew; sister, Betty Hanson; and parents, James and Essie Crew.

He is survived by his son and wife, Greg and Jan Crew of North Bend; daughter, Linda and Gary Zacrisson of Veneta; sister, Martha Crew Zwetz of Sixes; many loving grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; many nieces; and many nephews.
