Chad Scott Strawn

Dec. 13, 1966 - Feb. 22, 2015

Chad was born on Dec. 13, 1966, to Darrell and Joyce Strawn in Coos Bay, Ore. He spent his childhood in North Bend, Ore., with family and Grandparents, Conrad and Elva Edlund, and attended North Bend schools. A self-taught mechanic, Chad enjoyed working on model trucks and rebuilding ATVs, dirt bikes and riding in the dunes.

As a young man Chad worked for Spinreel Dune Buggy Rentals, Bohemia Lumber, Willamette Industries and Ideal Steel.

Chad graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Science in 2006. He held the position of Behavioral Vocational Specialist with the State of Oregon, DHS, until he was diagnosed with Acinar Cell Carcinoma of the Pancreas, last Feb. 2014. He helped many challenged people in his eight years with DHS.

The last year of Chad's life was lived courageously and with passion. He made a trip to Las Vegas last March to see the Monster Truck Jam, a dream he and his son shared, and some trips to the Sand Dunes to ride with family and friends.

Our Hero, Son, Grandson, Brother, Father, Uncle and Friend, put on his "wings" Feb. 22, 2015, and made his journey to Heaven. Chad modeled integrity, patience, compassion, and kindness. He loved his life, his work, his family and friends. He was a beautiful person and the world is a better place because he was in it.

With great sorrow, Chad leaves behind his beloved son, Cole of Springfield; father, Darrell Strawn of Gold Beach; mother, Joyce Strawn of Florence; grandmother, Ellen Edlund of Florence; sister, Julie Briles and her family of Springfield; mentor, "Big Brother" and friend, Tom Smith of Coos Bay; numerous aunts; uncles; cousins and friends throughout the state.

Heartfelt thanks from the family to Doctor Picozzi of Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle and nurses Nan and Alicia at Sacred Heart Riverbend Hospital for giving Chad exceptional care with dignity. Words cannot express our gratitude to all the State of Oregon employees who donated their vacation and sick time to Chad.

Please join us to celebrate Chad's life on May 2, 2015, at 2 p.m., at Driftwood Shores Resort in Florence, Oregon. All are welcome to come. The family request in lieu of flowers, please make donations to help search for a cure for Pancreatic Cancer at
