Beloved mother and grandmother, Alice Pearl (Mathews) Jones was born Oct. 13, 1926 in Estacada, Ore. She passed away peacefully Feb. 14, 2018 in Coos Bay.
Alice attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa and later Oregon University, obtaining her teaching credential. Alice married the love of her life Melvin A. Jones Dec. 27, 1946 and raised nine children. She never remarried after they divorced in 1975.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Vella (Coop) Mathews; brother, Milton; sisters, Myrtle Michaelson, Kathleen Lawler, and Rosaleen Hicks; daughter, Carleen; grandson, Anthony; and great-grandson, Christian.
Alice is survived by her sons, Nathan, Roland and wife, Janet, Timothy and wife, Sheila; daughters, Sydra and husband, John Williams, Gwenda Lark Francoeur, Dawn Jones, Lilly Gulseth and Lois Jones; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Alice spent her life working as a teacher, census taker and seamstress. In 2000 she published a recipe book called "The Hole Cake Doughnut Cookbook."
Alice loved gardening, cooking and quilting and when visited, she was often found working on a project quilt she was making for a family member.
Graveside services were held Feb. 20 in Winston.
