EDDYVILLE — A North Bend man was killed in a head-on collision Monday night in Lincoln County.
Shortly after 6 p.m. Monday, a pickup driven by Nathan S. Smith, 26, of Coquille, was westbound on U.S. Highway 20 near milepost 23 east of Eddyville when it crossed the center line into the eastbound lane.
In an attempt to avoid striking the pickup, a Mac truck pulling a semitrailer driven by Craig A. Dee, 47, of Salem, veered to the right shoulder, but the truck collided nearly head-on with the pickup.
The pickup’s front passenger, William Roger Beaudry II, 39, of North Bend, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Smith and Dee were not injured. All three were using safety restraints.
The two-lane highway was closed for 90 minutes before being open to one lane of travel. The highway was completely re-opened at about 10:30 p.m. Monday.
Oregon State Police troopers from the Newport Area Command office are continuing the investigation.
Any witnesses who have not spoken to OSP are asked to contact trooper Brian Tucker at 541-265-5354.
OSP was assisted at the scene by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Toledo Police Department, Toledo Fire Department, Pac West Ambulance, Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office and Lincoln County Medical Examiner.
