COOS BAY — A Coos Bay man was arrested on drug charges and DUII early Sunday following a single-vehicle wreck on Cape Arago Highway.
According to a Coos County Sheriff's Office press release, at about 2:07 a.m. deputies observed a blue 2002 Chevrolet town and country van traveling north bound on Cape Arago Highway in Coos Bay when the van went off the road and attempted to pull into the Midway RV Park. As the vehicle was pulling into the park, it struck the retaining wall.
Deputies contacted the driver who identified himself as Barry B. White, 35, of Coos Bay. During the investigation of the accident, narcotics were located underneath the vehicle. Deputies requested a K-9 unit to check for narcotics further inside the vehicle.
Upon the Sheriff’s Office request, Sgt. Orrin Wallace, of the Coquille Police Department, and K9 Sophi responded to the accident scene to assist. K9 Sophi alerted numerous times on the vehicle indicating there was drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. The vehicle was searched and drug paraphernalia was located.
Deputies requested Barry B. White consent to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests to which he did. Once completed with the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, it was determined White was driving under the influence of intoxicants. Barry B. White’s vehicle was towed from the scene.
White was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Coos County Jail where he was booked and lodged for driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving and possession of a controlled substance. His bail was set at $65,000. He was later released on citations to appear in lieu of custody.
This arrest was made with the assistance of the Coquille Police Department.
