COOS BAY — A woman, who said she was attempting to get out of the cold, faces charges of trespassing and criminal mischief after allegedly breaking into a trailer on private property Thursday, Feb. 22, along with another man.
According to a Coos County Sheriff's press release, at around 11:10 a.m., deputies were dispatched to a report of criminal trespass at 92797 Cape Arago Highway in Coos Bay. The property manager reported he showed up to check the property and found a male and female inside of an RV on the property. The property manager said the window on the RV was broken, most likely for the suspects to gain access.
When deputies arrived, they were advised the male suspect had fled the area. Deputies found the female suspect, Crystal McNelly, 36, of Coos Bay, still inside the RV. McNelly told deputies she broke into the trailer the night before to sleep, because it was cold outside. Deputies contacted the owner, who advised the damage to the RV would be several hundred dollars to fix.
Deputies arrested McNelly for criminal trespass II and criminal mischief II and transported her to the Coos County Jail. McNelly was booked and released on citation to appear in court.
