COQUILLE — A 62 year-old man and inmate at the Coos County Jail, was found dead in his cell Wednesday night.

According to a press release from the Coos County District Attorney's Office, Jimmy Rodgers Putman was found unresponsive around 8 p.m.  A medical examiner was summoned and determined that Putman had died.

Detectives from Oregon State Police have taken over the investigation of Putman’s death. There is no reason apparent to suspect foul play, but investigators are still investigating the death. It’s believed that Putman died of natural causes.

According to deputies Putman was a transient, but listed Brookings as his place of residency. Putman was in jail serving his fourth DUI charge.

Putman was in court on Tuesday to plead guilty to driving under the influence of intoxicants.
