NORTH BEND — Once again, the North Bend City Council will be spending Tuesday night’s meeting discussing a raise in the city’s public safety fee.
At the last meeting, the city council rejected the increase in public safety fees, because councilors felt the decision to increase the fee should be left to a vote of the people.
The council will vote on whether or not to adopt the city’s budget for fiscal year 2018-2019. Voting on whether or not to adopt the budget was supposed to happen at the last city council meeting. After the council rejected the fee increase, the budget was no longer balanced and could not be adopted. The city legally must adopt its budget by July 1.
Coos Bay will be hold a special meeting on Tuesday, in lieu of its work session, to hold a public hearing to consider a conditional use permit for a purposed new facility for Bay Area First Step to house recovering addicts.
The property in question is an old hotel in the Empire area. The Coos Bay Planning Commission originally denied the conditional use permit by a 5-1 vote. They felt that facility’s use would have a negative impact on local schools and businesses.
This public hearing is an appeal made by Bay Area First Step to have the city council discuss the issue.
