COOS BAY — Southwestern Oregon Community College’s Small Business Development Center will be offering several classes starting in January 2018.
Ready, Set, Start Your Business is offered multiple times each month. The 2 hour courses are for anyone considering becoming a first time business owner, to learn about the critical “first steps” when starting a new business. January classes will be: 10 a.m.-noon Thursday, Jan. 4; 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10; 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17; 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23; and 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Jan. 31. The cost is $20 each.
What’s Your Plan is a four-session course about writing a business plan that will gets results. The class will meet 5:30-7:30 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 8, Jan. 22, Feb. 5 and Feb. 26. Cost for this course is $125. This class is required for businesses completing the Dream Savers program through NeighborWorks Umpqua.
Effective Human Resources is a three part series that meets 5:30-7:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday. The first class will meet Jan. 9. The topic will be Team Building, create strong leadership and purpose develop strong businesses; Feb. 13, class will learn to create a policy manual and job descriptions for employees. Making managements job much easier. Then March 13, participants will learn about Hiring and Firing, the ins and outs of hiring, and how to terminate employees without risking legal action. Cost for Effective Human Resources is $200.
Mobilizing Your Business is a three part series that meets 5:30-7:30 on the third Thursday. The first class will be Jan. 18, and cover Mobile Apps and Your Business. Customers are using mobile devices to locate products and services. Learn how to be where more customers are buying. The next class will meet Feb. 15, the topic, Is Your Website Mobile Friendly, is your business being found online? Learn how to build your online presence. Then March 15, class will cover Cyber Security. Learn techniques to foil online criminal’s intent on stealing from your business. Presented by Nick Wiley who is certified with Google, Constant Contact, HootSuite and Yext, and he is a a member of the Social Media marketing Society and Social Club. This series will cost $200.
SBM – Small Business Management Program meets over nine months 5:30-7:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday. The program will focus on marketing: Jan. 9, Team Building; Feb. 13, Creating A Policy Manual and Job Descriptions; March 13, Hiring and Firing; April 10, Strategic Planning; May 8, Work Life Balance; June 12, Negotiating Finesse; July 10, Renting Out Space; August 14, Build Your Brand; and Sept. 11, Creating Marketing Campaigns That Work. Cost is $500 per organization for two individuals.

Cost is $500 per organization for two individuals.
QuickBooks 10-session interactive series is a comprehensive hands-on course designed to help businesses utilize the many aspects of the application. The course begins 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21 and then continues to meet every Wednesday until April 25. Cost $429.
