NORTH BEND — Above Dental is once again doing what it can to help others.

The North Bend dentist office has over the years hosted a number of local charitable events aimed at helping an array of community members in need.

Jodi Peck, the director of operations at Above Dental, said the office works hard each year to give back to the community often collaborating with numerous nonprofit organizations including The Salvation Army and Operation Gratitude.

A few local residents received a free Sonicare toothbrush at the 2018 Free Dental Day in North Bend.

Under the leadership of Dr. Devin Brice, the owner and a dentist at Above Dental, the facility has been able to host local food drives, free dental services and fundraising events for veterans.

One of which includes, the annual “Halloween Candy Buyback” event which calls on children throughout the area to sell their Halloween candy to Above Dental and Dr. Brice who will then donate those funds to Operation Gratitude, a nonprofit organization that delivers care packages to deployed U.S. service members, veterans and first responders as well as other groups.

The child that brings in the highest amount of candy wins a cash prize which Dr. Brice will match to donate to a charity or organization of the child’s choosing, said Peck. It’s been a lot of fun seeing all the kids participate and get a chance to also do some good, she said.

Most recently, the office participated in its fourth annual Free Dental Day event Friday where it helped hundreds of community members get access to free dental care that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford.

The services provided included offering free cleanings, extractions and fillings. This year, Dr. Brice, who paid out of pocket to provide the free service, was joined by six hygienists as well as fellow colleagues Dr. Michael Martins and Dr. Steven Richardson to name a few.

This September, the office will also be participating in a food drive at its facility to collect canned goods and other non-perishable items to donate to a local food bank in Coquille. In December, it’s also planning on joining in The Salvation Army’s “Angel Tree Program” to help provide toys and clothing to families and children in need.

“I’ve worked with Dr. Brice for the past 10 years since he first began practicing,” said Peck. “He is always volunteering and always doing what he can to help make our community better.”
