They filled seats by the hundreds — all in support of the Boys and Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon.
In all, 300 guests gathered in November at The Mill Casino-Hotel to enjoy an evening to raise money for the club’s Annual Banquet and Auction for Kids, a press release said. Corporate sponsors for the evening included Coos Head Forest Products, Oregon Resources Corporation, Jordan Cove Energy Project, and Industrial Steel and Supply Company. The fundraiser brought in more than $160,000 to help fund afterschool programs for area youth.
The event featured auctions, dinner, a raffle and special presentation in honor of longtime supporter and board member, John Foss. Ron Opitz encouraged guests to participate in the “Sponsor a Child” program.
The featured raffle item was a trip to Hawaii donated by Tom and Teri Craig. The highlighted item was a weekend at the Sweet’s Cabin on the Illinois River that sold for $3,000.
The club serves more than 3,500 members in Coos, Curry and Douglas counties and continues to grow to meet the needs of today’s youth. Members participate is after-school and summer activities in education, peer leadership, computer technology, prevention programs, physical fitness and the arts.
