Ed and Yvonne Williams celebrated 50 years of marriage Saturday, March 18.
Yvonne came to Coos Bay to stay with an uncle and aunt to attend Southwestern Oregon Community College. Ed was managing the Timber Inn. It was December 1967, Ed had four banquet Christmas parties and needed extra oven space. He asked Walley Sandean to use his bakery ovens. When Ed went into the bakery he met Yvonne Sherman working their for extra money for school.
Ed said I feel I've known you for ever. Her response was, "ya right". Long story short, Ed asked her boss to tell her he was a good guy. Short story, they met Dec. 20 and married March 18. Everyone said it couldn't last, ha! I'm the luckiest guy in the world to share my life with Yvonne.
Ed and Yvonne have three children; Gregg W., Alice W., and Sue Mathues; and three grandchildren. Ed is retired and Yvonne has worked for Engles Furniture for the last 32 years. They will celebrate their 50th anniversary in San Jose, Calif., with their daughter Alice, and go down to their home in Yuma City.
