Charles (Jerry) Gerald Kroeger and June Ann Gardiner celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 23. They celebrated the occasion with family in Bend, Ore. The couple was married June 23, 1967, in Coos Bay, Ore.
Jerry was born in Coos Bay, Ore., growing up as an only child on the family farm in Allegany, his grandparents homestead more than 100 years ago. While Jerry was still in high school he started attending Southwestern Oregon Community College, where he got his associate of arts degree. After getting his degree he worked at Menasha, where he got started in diesel mechanics. After a year, Jerry went to work for Weyerhauser Company. He retired a master mechanic after 38 years. After retirement Jerry kept busy with a few different jobs through various businesses in the area. Jerry is a charter member of the Millicoma Parks and Rec Group in Allegany.
June was born in Lima, Ohio. She moved to San Jose, Cali., with her family when she was 7 years old. After graduating from high school in 1959, June moved to McMinnville, Ore., and attended Linfield College until graduating in 1963. Upon graduating June moved to Coos Bay, getting a teaching job at Marshfield High School from 1963-1967. After taking time from teaching to attend to her new family, June went back to work as a substitute teacher while the kids were in school. For a short time she worked at the Allegany Post Office while leading various bible studies and prayer groups in the community and through her church, and for several years taking part in Aglow International.
After retirement, June and Jerry have kept busy with various activities. Both became involved in CERT and founded the AVERT program (Allegany Volunteer Emergency Response Team). They also enjoy taking care of their property and farm.
June and Jerry's heart is for their family: Twins — the late Charles James and Jennifer Ann (1968), the late Coralee and Steve Jeter, Rich and Kelly Kroeger, Sandy and Jay Messerle, Jodi and Tom Gayewski, Brenda and Jeff Swank. Seventeen grandchildren and their spouses, 17 great-grandchildren, June's brother John and Leslie Gardiner and family.
