Gene and Betty (Roth) Parrish recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They celebrated with an honorary dinner joined by close family, followed with cake and champagne.
Gene and Betty met at the Coos County Fair in 1960. Betty was attending the fair with her best friend who happened to be Gene’s cousin. Gene wouldn’t take no for an answer and they were married March 18, 1961.
Gene and Betty both grew up and attended schools in Coquille.
Betty is the daughter of the late Rex and Verna Roth, who owned and ran a dairy farm in the Coquille Valley for more than 50 years. Betty is an avid gardener and plant expert and has studied natural medicine for many years.
Gene is the son of Phillip Parrish and Iva Gilbert of Coquille and a graduate of Southern Oregon College in Ashland. Gene, a retired banker, worked at US National Bank of Oregon and Wells Fargo Bank for a total of 43 years.
Betty and Gene have four children, Angela Parrish of Coquille, Michael Parrish of Warrenton, Daniel Parrish of Myrtle Point, and Karen Daskalaskis of Forest Grove. They also have nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
