Jerry and Mary Howes, of Coos Bay, are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. This amazing couple met at Prairie Bible Institute in Alberta, Canada.
Jerry is from Springfield and Mary is from Taber, Alberta, Canada. Jerry drove to Canada to marry her. Mary came to the U.S. to make their life together. Jerry worked hard to make a start for them. He enlisted in the Navy as a corpsman, serving a tour in Vietnam, leaving Mary and their first little girl, Michelle, in California. Upon his return, they had their second daughter, Lynnet.
The couple moved back to Oregon and settled down in Coos Bay where they had their son, Tim. Jerry worked as an Industrial nurse for Weyerhaeuser and then International Paper in Gardner until it closed. He then worked at local nursing homes until his retirement.
Mary worked as a house cleaner until recently. She is still an aquasize instructor at Bay Area Athletic Club. They have both served at all the Lord sent their way and, through it all, have held to their love for each other. They have always opened their home to help family, friends and many others in need of a place to stay or getting back on their feet. Thank you for being a great example for us all.
