REEDSPORT — Highland Elementary School kindergartners broke out the holiday magic Wednesday evening with a production of the musical "The Littlest Christmas Tree."

The play tells the story of trees in the forest who are to be cut down to become Christmas trees. Each tree is excited to be chosen by a family, with all the large trees being selected, but in the end the littlest trees are left alone. Their animal friends grant their wish, though, decorating the trees for the holidays.

Sara Dean, one of the kindergarten teachers for Highland, said the kids did a great job. She said they enjoyed practicing the songs and performing for the community.

"They really enjoyed performing," Dean said. "We had a really good attendance both in the crowd and with the kiddos."

She recalled they began practicing the songs just before Thanksgiving, then started putting the show itself together just after Thanksgiving weekend. Dean said the kids practiced really hard for the performance and added that she's proud of their hard work. She also said the audience thought the show was really good and a cute production.
