Four starlings hitch a ride on a moving elk at the Dean Creek elk viewing area east of Reedsport. As the herd grazed, the birds congregated on their backs, pecking at parasites once in a while.

COOS BAY — During the past 28 years the South Coast Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and volunteers have done a tremendous job fundraising for Oregon elk country. To date, the local chapter has raised over $850,000 and consistently remain focused on RMEF's mission for ensuring the future of elk, other wildlife, their habitat, and hunting heritage.

The South Coast Chapter will hold their annual Big Game Banquet Saturday, April 27 at the Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon, 3333 Walnut Ave. in Coos Bay. The event will start at 4:30 p.m. and there will be auctions, fun and games and dinner. Tickets to the event are $40 each with your annual membership, $35.

Some of the prizes include firearms, premium hunts and exclusive gear.
