NORTH BEND — Join local artist Victoria Tierney as she celebrates the "Spirit of 76," a show of paintings, prints, illustrated books and photographs featured at the North Bend Library during August. There will be a reception for the artist from 4-8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 16, at the library, 1800 Sherman Ave., North Bend. Mark Tierney will play music on his guitar and refreshments will be served. All are welcome.
The artist will also bring her copies of the Wilhelm/Jung version of the "I Ching," the 2000-year-old oracle of ancient Chinese wisdom, as well as the "I Ching" workbook edited by R.L. Wing, and will explain how it works and how she used it in creating her newest series: “Samaras/Samsaras." “Samaras” is the botanical term for the winged seeds of the maples, elms, sycamores and ash trees, while “samsara” is the Sanskrit word for “reincarnation” or “The Cycle of Eternal Return." Time permitting, Tierney will help answer questions people may be having about their own creative process.
Tierney has lived in Bandon since 1977 and will turn 77 in September. Most of the works in the show were created in her year of being 76.
