Re: controlling gorse. Around 1960, several of my students and I released a few vials of gorse weevils on the north slope of Merchant's Valley. They proliferated, and when I taught in Bandon in the 1970s-80s, every pod we opened contained the larvae of weevils eating the seeds. They do not eat the developed plant, hence other methods of eradication must be devised, but new seeds are not being produced.
