JUNE 27, 2018 — Employee Matthew Vige puts vegetables on a grill Wednesday outside the Coos Head Food Co-op in Coos Bay. Employees at the store put together a vegan barbecue to share the taste of plant based foods such as jackfruit, a tropical fruit that has a meat-like flesh.

COOS BAY — The month of July is an exciting time for the community-owned food group based in downtown Coos Bay. Staff and volunteers are offering opportunities for people to taste new foods, take proactive measures towards good health, and overall fun with food.

July events for the community include:

MatÉ Monday starting 10 a.m.-2 p.m. July 9: Come to life for the week with a complimentary cup of Guayaki Yerba MatÉ, a great coffee alternative because it has the caffeine levels of a cup of coffee with the nutritional benefits of green tea. 

Low-Cost Blood Screening with NW Wellness 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, July 12. Sign up to take a proactive measure towards good health by participating in blood test that can help guide personal health decisions. Prices and sign-ups will be announced on Coos Head Food Co-op Facebook event page.

Celebrate National Ice Cream Day noon-3 p.m. Sunday, July 15. Enjoy a complimentary ice cream cone, chill out. The co-op as we share the various dairy and dairy-free alternatives available.

Grilled Veggies Demonstration 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, July 18. Produce Manager Matthew will be sharing a variety of vegetables as he is grilling on the co-op patio. He will be offering tips and insight on how to grill excellent tasting vegetables that include parsnips, cactus nopales, and more.

There is no cost to attend most of these events at Coos Head Food Co-op; has been in operation for 47 years with the mission of sourcing local, organic, sustainable, natural foods and products for a vibrant Coos Community.
