Vessel safety checks

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary offers free vessel safety checks throughout the spring and summer in various locations along the South Coast. Above, volunteers are pictured in Bandon on Memorial Day weekend, 2017.

COOS BAY - The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will be offering a free vessel safety check from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, April 7, at the Cascade Outdoor Store parking lot, 3111 Ocean Blvd. SE, in Coos Bay.

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 51 Coos Bay members offer to the boating public a free boat safety inspection. The USCG trained examiners will certify the boat if it meets Oregon and federal U.S. Coast Guard boating laws for equipment and will issue a current decal certifying compliance. The examiners will also make recommendations to boat owners for operation in local waters. The vessel safety check is available by appointment at the owner’s location in the Coos Bay, North Bend, Lakeside, Winchester Bay, Reedsport and Bandon areas.

For additional information and to make arrangements for a vessel safety check inspection, call 530-713-1811 for Winchester Bay and Lakeside; 541-329-0396 for Bandon; and 541-888-6200 or 541-267-6152 for North Bend, Coos Bay and Charleston.
