BANDON - At 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, local artist and muralist Vicki Affatati will present a workshop focusing on this summer’s 2018 Boardwalk Art Show, “Salmon Dreams, Marshes and Streams.”
Those attending can get started on their boardwalk art project with Affatati’s guidance at the workshop. This is Affatati’s sixth year of providing the Bandon School District’s art instruction for the Port of Bandon’s Boardwalk Art Show. The workshop will start with a short presentation about salmon for inspiration, then people can begin designing their boardwalk art board. Supplies and references will be available. (A $10 donation is requested for the board and supplies).
This year’s Boardwalk Art Show, sponsored by the Bandon Professional Center, coincides with the town-wide Big Fish Project. Bandon’s public art will include the Boardwalk Art Show, an art show about fish at Southern Coos Hospital & Health Center, 20-plus hand-painted salmon cutouts hung all over town as a walking mural, and a giant salmon windsock hung over the boardwalk with the help of Bandon High School students. Educational panels will help to explain more about the local biome.
Blank panels for the Boardwalk Art Show are now available at Art by the Sea Gallery and Studio, 145 Fillmore Ave. SE, and at the Port of Bandon office. Completed artworks are due by Friday, May 18.
In addition to the workshop and other events throughout town, the Bandon Public Library will feature a series of presentations throughout the rest of the year with the Big Fish Project theme.
