BANDON - Children ages 6-18 years are invited to Sage Place and the Bandon Discovery Center for a summer of creative studio adventures.
Beginning Thursday, July 5, and running through Aug. 30, Sage is offering a series of workshops called "Art Journeys for Kids."
Each class is focused around exploring fundamental design concepts, experimenting with art materials and discussing works from pre-history to the 21st century.
Thursday workshops are offered in two sessions: ages 6-12 meet from 10-11:30 a.m., and ages 13-18 meet from 1-2:30 p.m.
All classes will be taught by Anne Sobbota, M.A. The owner of Sage Place, Sobbota is an artist and professional arts educator. With 28 years of teaching experience, she currently teaches advanced glass and creative theory workshops in the studio. Assisting, on Thursdays, will be Autumn Moss-Strong, a University of Oregon student and Bandon High graduate who was recently accepted into the UO Educational Foundations program.
Additional workshops, combined for all age groups, will also be offered on select Sunday and Monday afternoons, from 3-5 p.m. Susan Tree will be the assistant in these condensed classes. Tree is a professional artist and a Sage Place instructor. She is also the creator of many of the beautiful glass pieces featured in the Bandon Discovery Center exhibits.
In keeping with the Sage goals of bringing quality low-cost art opportunities to local children, costs for classes are minimal - $2-$7 per week. There is a $5 sketchbook fee added and due at the first class attended. The sketchbook will be used in each subsequent lesson. Students may enroll in all sessions, or select specific dates. However, the class limit is 12 per session and space is available on a first-come basis. Pre-registration is required.
