DALLAS — Brittney Griner, the dunking freshman sensation for No. 14 Baylor, has been suspended for two games after throwing a punch that broke an opposing player's nose in a Big 12 game.

Lady Bears coach Kim Mulkey said in a statement issued late Thursday that Griner will be suspended for one game in addition to a one-game suspension mandated by NCAA rules.

Griner was automatically suspended for Baylor's next contest, Sunday against No. 18 Texas in Waco. Mulkey's additional one-game suspension will force Griner to miss Baylor's Big 12 Championship tournament opener on March 11 or 12.

Iverson's wife wants divorce, child custody

ATLANTA — The same day the Philadelphia 76ers announced that guard Allen Iverson would not return for the rest of the season, his wife filed for divorce in Atlanta.

In papers filed Tuesday in Fulton County Superior Court, Tawanna Iverson said their 81/2-year marriage is 'irretrievably broken." She asks for full custody of the couple's five children, child support and alimony.

The youngest child is 17 months old and the oldest is 15.

After returning to the 76ers as a free agent in December, Iverson returned to Atlanta in February to be with his family as they deal with an undisclosed illness of his 4-year-old daughter, Messiah.

Fresno State assistant will join Kiffin's staff

LOS ANGELES — Longtime Fresno State assistant coach John Baxter is leaving the Bulldogs to become Lane Kiffin's associate head coach and special teams coordinator at Southern California.

Kiffin announced the latest addition to his coaching staff Thursday.

Baxter spent the last 13 seasons as Pat Hill's right-hand man at Fresno State, coaching the Bulldogs' perennially outstanding special-teams units and spending time as their tight ends and receivers coach. He also developed a nationally praised program to teach academic study skills to his players.

Kiffin still hasn't hired an offensive coordinator nearly two months after he left Tennessee to return to USC.

Dr. Galea resigns after drug accusations

TORONTO — A doctor accused of selling an unapproved drug has resigned as team doctor of the Canadian Football League's Toronto Argonauts.

Dr. Anthony Galea resigned in early February after working for the team since 2003, Argos spokeswoman Beth Waldman said. She said she doesn't know the reason for the Canadian doctor's resignation.

Galea is facing four charges in Canada related to the drug known as Actovegin. The drug is extracted from calf's blood and used for healing. Galea's assistant also has been charged in the U.S. for having HGH and another drug while crossing the border in September.

Yankees star Alex Rodriguez and other high profile baseball players have been contacted by U.S. federal investigators regarding Galea. Mets center fielder Carlos Beltran and shortstop Jose Reyes talked to federal investigators last week. Beltran said Galea worked with team doctors when he treated him.

Galea is known for using a blood-spinning technique — platelet-rich plasma therapy — designed to speed recovery from injuries. Among the athletes he has treated are golfer Tiger Woods, swimmer Dara Torres and several NFL players.

Holden sidelined with broken right leg

BOLTON, England — Bolton midfielder Stuart Holden will be sidelined for up to six weeks after breaking his right leg in the United States' 2-1 exhibition loss at the Netherlands.

Holden was hurt from a hard tackle by Nigel de Jong in Amsterdam on Wednesday night, limped off and was taken for X-rays.

The U.S. Soccer Federation issued a statement saying that Holden was 'recklessly tackled." The USSF said the bone fractured was his fibula.

The 22-year-old Holden had started Bolton's last two matches after leaving Major League Soccer's Houston team to sign with the Premier League club.
