Marshfield opened the Midwestern League dual wrestling season with a 60-6 win over visiting Willamette on Wednesday.
The match was a good tuneup for the Pirates' trip this week to the Oregon Classic in Redmond, where they face top-ranked Hermiston in a dual on Friday.
Marshfield won three matches by pins and another by a technical fall against the Wolverines.
"The kids were excited," Marshfield coach Kris Davis said. "It was the home opener. It's a good thing to get off to a good start."
Tyler Nixon (125 pounds), Kody Campbell (171) and Cody Shipp (189) all won their bouts with pins. Jesse Moore (152) won by technical fall and Jacob Browning (215) won a major decision.
Meanwhile, Nick Roderick edged J.R. Pasqual 8-7 at 112 pounds.
"Nick Roderick lost to that kid earlier in the year, so that was a good win for him," Davis said.
Willamette won two matches by decision. Marshfield earned five wins by forfeit.
"We're right on track," Davis said, noting the team had good performances throughout the lineup.
Marshfield opens at the Oregon Classic against Crater, which is ranked 10th in Class 5A. The second match is against top-ranked Hermiston and the Pirates face Sherwood in their final dual Friday.
"We're going to be tested," Davis said. "Hermiston is head-and-shoulders above everybody in the state right now."
The tournament continues Saturday.
