The winter sports season for high schools in Oregon officially begins Wednesday with a number of basketball games.

Five South Coast schools will start their basketball seasons Wednesday and the first swimming and wrestling meets also are this week.

In basketball on Wednesday, Coquille visits Bandon, Myrtle Point hosts Douglas, Reedsport travels to Elkton and Siuslaw is at Creswell, all in girls and boys doubleheaders. The girls varsity games start at 5:30 p.m. in Bandon and Myrtle Point and 6 p.m. in Elkton. The boys play first at Creswell, with the varsity game starting at 6.

The Powers boys and girls visit Coquille’s JV teams on Thursday and Pacific has its first games in the Beau Classic at Western Mennonite on Friday. Marshfield’s girls visit Newport on Friday and Philomath on Saturday and North Bend’s boys and girls host Coquille on Saturday.

In swimming, Marshfield and North Bend hold their annual dual meet on Friday at North Bend, starting at 6 p.m.

In wrestling, Coquille is at the Devin Dawson Invitational in Harrisburg on Friday. On Saturday, North Bend and Siuslaw compete in the Perry Burlison Classic at Cascade High School and Reedsport participates in the Willie Wilkinson Memorial at Glide. Brookings-Harbor competes in the Battle at the Border at Del Norte High School in Crescent City.
