Southwestern Oregon Community College sophomore Kuda Murasiranwa started his outdoor season in style at the Linfield Icebreaker meet last weekend, winning the 100 meters and hitting a trio of automatic NWAC qualifying marks.

Murasiranwa took the 100 in 11.02 seconds and was runner-up in the 200 in 22.25, both automatic qualifying marks. He also anchored SWOCC’s 4x100 relay team to second in 43.51, another automatic qualifying mark. And he was on a 4x400 relay team that placed 10th in 3:40.30. The Lakers also had a second squad finish 17th in 3:51.47.

Lamont Klepper set a personal best in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, a new event for him, taking sixth with his time of 10:58.09. He also was 22nd in the 800 (2:10.88).

In addition to Murasiranwa in the 100, Brian Hunt was 10th (11.39), Angel Moreno 19th (11.58) and Carter Rudisill 25th (11.88). In the 200, Moreno was 11th (23.29), Rudisill 23rd (24.33), Clinton Omandi 38th (25.79), Everett Evanoff 41st (26.42) and Matthew Kashiwamura 42nd (31.20). In the 400, Omandi was 22nd (58.06), Evanoff was 24th (58.31), Ryan Cecil 26th (1:05.05) and Kashiwamura 27th (1:13.82).

In the field events, Dylan Jennings was 17th in the discus (106 meet, 9 inches), with Erick Zamora Ajtun 22nd (100-8), Dustin Robey 26th (92-0) and Cecil 31st (81-10).

In the long jump, Christian Ambrogio was 35th (15-11 ½) and Kaleb Sadoff Tierni 36th (13-11 34). In the triple jump, Ambrogio was 12th (40-5 ½). Brandon Dowd was 11th in the pole vault (11-5 ¾).

Robey placed seventh in the javelin (152-11). In the hammer throw, Bryan Terry was 15th (111-2), Robey 24th (86-4), Zamora Ajtun 26th (83-7) and Jennings 27th (71-5). In the final event, Terry had the best field event finish for the day for SWOCC, placing third in the shot put (43-9 ½), just missing the auto qualifying mark. Zamora Ajtun was 22nd (32-11) and Jennings 24th (32.4 ¾).

For the women, Kia Collins was eighth in the hammer throw (107-4) while Destiny Martinez was 17th (71-9). In the discus, Collins was ninth (99-5), Martinez 12th (97-11) and Mazie Martin 18th (74-11). Martin was 11th (108-0) and Collins 15th (102-1) in the javelin. And in the shot put, Collins was 10th (33-10) and Martinez 17th (29-3).

On the track, Madison Davis was ninth in the 400 (1:13.84). Ryleigh Cobb was 20th in the 100 (14.32). In the 200, Lillian Weatherman was 20th (29.24) and Davis 28th (30.85). SWOCC also entered a women’s 4x400 relay team, which took eighth in 4:51.24.

The Lakers compete this weekend in the Saints Open at Mount Hood Community College in Gresham.
