Reedsport’s baseball team won at Toledo 20-9 on Friday to stay perfect on the season.

The top-ranked Brave tuned up for Tuesday’s showdown with visiting Bandon, which also is 3-0 and the only other unbeaten team in Sunset Conference play.

Reedsport improved to 13-0 overall, but it wasn’t easy. Toledo led 8-4 in the fourth inning before Reedsport rallied. The game was tied at 8 heading to the sixth, when Reedsport had six hits, took advantage of seven walks and scored 12 runs.

Griffin Lavigne had three singles and a two-run home run for the Brave and Dallas McGill also hit a two-run homer.

Marc Chaney and Jacob Chaney both had three runs for Reedsport. Lavigne, McGill, Korde Parmenter, Kyle Barnes and Javier Analco all scored twice.

Far West League

Bulldogs win opener: North Bend beat South Umpqua 4-3 in the first game of Friday’s doubleheader, with the second game suspended when the teams were tied 4-all through seven innings with darkness quickly approaching.

That game will be finished at a date to be determined.

In the opener North Bend got all its runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead and held on. August Baker had a lead-off double and scored on a double by Bridger Holmes. Brylee Anderson walked and Corbin White had a sacrifice bunt leading to a two-run single by Mane Freeman. Jake Simmons added an RBI single to finish the big rally.

In the second game, the Lancers scored four in the second to take an early lead and the Bulldogs got three back in the third and one in the fourth.

Lucas Moe had two hits and two runs for North Bend, while Parker Patterson, Taylor Gross and William Wylie had had doubles for the Lancers.

North Bend hosts Marshfield on Tuesday to start the three-game Civil War series next week.

Trojans, Bruins split: Douglas won the opener 4-2 but host Brookings-Harbor took the nightcap 8-3 to take two of three from the Trojans in the opening-week series.

Nonleague

St. Paul 6, Bandon 3: The Tigers came up short in a game played at Wilsonville on Friday.

St. Paul’s Justin Herberger limited Bandon to just seven hits. Adam Basey had a single and double and drove in two runs for the Tigers and Matt Yarbor also had two hits.

Coby Smith walked twice and scored two of the runs and Josh Minkler had the other run.

Rawley Koch had two hits and three RBIs for St. Paul and Bradey Weise had two hits and two runs.

SOFTBALL

Far West League

Bruins sweep: Brookings-Harbor topped Douglas 11-1 and 17-9 to sweep the opening series with the Trojans.

Brookings-Harbor is tied with Marshfield at 3-0 one week into the league season. The Bruins face Siuslaw next week, with Tuesday’s game in Florence.

Sunset Conference

Toledo 30, Reedsport 2: The Boomers beat the Brave to hand Reedsport its first loss in league play.

TRACK & FIELD

Cinder Classic: Powers had a number of winners in the meet at Crow High School on Thursday.

David Pedrick won the 200 and 400, Dayven Hayes took the shot put and was second in the hammer (a rarely contested high school event), Jamason Kellogg won the long jump and was second in the 100, and Clancy Standley won the pole vault and was second to Kellogg in the long jump.

For the girls, Kathrynn Pedrick was second in both the 200 and 400 and third in the pole vault. Miya Clauson was third in the shot put.
