North Bend will host 10 other schools in the North Bend Invitational swim meet on Saturday.
The field is the biggest it’s been in recent years, with newcomers Ashland, Crater, Toledo, Newport and Junction City joining traditional participants Grants Pass, Roseburg, Henley, Cottage Grove, and the two Bay Area teams Marshfield and North Bend.
Preliminaries will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, with finals starting late in the afternoon.
There is no admission for fans and concessions will be available through the South Coast Aquatic Team.
Schools will be allowed to enter up to four swimmers in each event. The top 12 in each event will advance to the finals and consolation heats later in the day. All relays will be finals only.
North Bend, Newport and Marshfield all feature several swimmers who are among the best in Class 4A. Roseburg and Grants Pass are both Class 6A schools and Crater and Ashland are in Class 5A, suggesting there should be a number of good races throughout the day.
Crater and Ashland will make the trip over a day early and also compete against Marshfield and Reedsport at Mingus Park on Friday. That meet will serve as the first competition for Reedsport’s restored program.
Meanwhile, North Bend and Henley will compete against each other in a dual meet Friday that starts at 4:30 p.m.
