Marshfield’s wrestling team won all four of its matches Friday at the Oregon Classic to advance to the championship bracket in the big tournament at Redmond.
Marshfield opened with a convincing 60-21 win over Scappoose and followed it up with a 48-30 win over Estacada. The Pirates topped Sisters 61-12 and finished the night with a 48-33 victory against North Marion.
In the win over Scappoose, Marshfield got pins by Kody Koumentis (113 pounds), Frankie Harlow (120), Peyton Forbes (132), AJ Lira (138), Willy Jantzer (145), Garrett Lefebvre (152), Travis Wittlake (170), Aiden Adams (182), Tyler Post (220) and Phillip Hernandez (285).
Against Estacada, Marshifeld got pins by Koumentis, Harlow, Peyton Forbes, Lira, Jantzer, Will Forbes (160), and Wittlake and a decision by Lefebvre. Estacada won the four upper weights.
Marshfield won all but one contested match against Sisters and got pins by Peyton Forbes, Lira, Jantzer, Lefebvre, Wittlake, Adams and Post. Colton West (126) and Will Forbes won decisions.
North Marion gave Marshfield a challenge in the final match, but the Pirates prevailed. Koumentis, Harlow, West, Jantzer, Lefebvre and Will Forbes all won their matches with pins and Wittlake and Hernandez won by forfeits. In one of the top bouts of the duel, North Marion’s Brandon Gibson edged Lira 2-0.
On the eve of the tournament, Marshfield had a good pair of matches, falling to Crook County 42-28 and beating Molalla 54-9.
Crook County and Marshfield both won six matches on the mat, but the Cowboys got two forfeits, which helped make the final score a little bigger margin. Janzter, Lefebvre and Wittlake had pins and Koumentis, Harlow and Lira won by decision.
Koumentis, Konrad Hoyer (126), Lira, Wittlake and Adams had pins against Molalla and Jantzer, Lefebvre and Will Forbes won by decision.
Reedsport won one of its three duals Friday, hurt by four open weight classes that led to forfeits in the losses.
The Brave topped Oakridge 36-18 after a 48-30 loss to Grant Union and a 33-27 loss to Crane.
Against Oakridge, Reedsport got pins by River Lichte (145 pounds) and Nick Glover (160) and won four other matches by forfeit.
Against Grant Union, the Brave and the Prospectors each won five contested matches, but Grant Union took the win with the 24 points from forfeits. Carson Keith (106), River Lichte (138), Justin Cassano (152), Glover (170) and Devin Lichte (182) all had pins.
Fisher Wahl (132) and Glover both had pins against Crane and Eli Carson won by decision at 126 pounds. Reedsport also won two matches by forfeit.
Coquille lost its matches with a thin lineup that led to numerous forfeits.
Sage Garrington (145 pounds), Brayden Clayburn (152) and Joey Vigue (195) had pins for the Red Devils in a 54-24 loss to Riverside and in a 42-18 loss to Redmond’s JV. Clayburn also had a pin against Lakeview in a 24-18 loss that included numerous forfeits by each club.
