BANDON — Bandon's girls basketball team continues to play hard and improve, though the Tigers came up short in the third-place game to Glide 62-23 in the Black Bracket at the Bandon Dunes Holiday Invitational on Wednesday.
Kennedy Tuner led Bandon with 12 points and Nikki Lakey added eight.
Jordan Williams led all scorers with 18 points for Glide, Whitney Stone added 12 points and Johanna Pope had 11 points.
Bandon coach Jordan Sammons said he is happy with his team’s effort, but their enthusiasm most of all.
Bandon plays Glide in its next game at the Oakland Booster Club Holiday Invitational in a week and Sammons said his players are excited to improve and see how much better they’ve gotten.
“Obviously, I want the girls to get a win for themselves and the girls want to get a win for themselves,” he said. “But besides the win-loss column, I’m extremely happy with their effort. I’m extremely happy with their mindset going in to a few more games before league starts. I’m really happy with the improvement I’ve seen in five weeks. “
That game in Oakland is set to tip at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 28.
Bonanza 44, Santiam 27: In the championship game, Kenadee Dirk scored 13 points and Jessica Batterman added 10 as the Bonzana Antlers held down the Santiam Wolverines.
Bonanza used a first-quarter 3-pointer from Dirk, the game’s only one, to take a 13-6 lead but Santiam shrunk the advantage to 18-15 at halftime.
It was as close as Santiam came. Bonanza outscored Santiam 12-3 in the third quarter and 14-9 in the fourth to pull away for the tournament title.
The all-tournament team included Bonanza's Batterman and Dirk, Santiam's McKenzie Dodge, Bandon's Nikki Lakey and Glide's Allison Michel.
