The spring sports season starts Monday in Oregon, at least if the forecast for dry weather holds.
Teams have been practicing for two weeks and Monday is the first day allowable for contests under Oregon School Activities Association rules.
Right off the bat, North Bend’s softball team hosts Elmira on Monday, while Marshfield is at Junction City. Also in softball, Coquille is at Gold Beach, Reedsport hosts Yoncalla and Brookings-Harbor visits Rogue River.
North Bend’s baseball team visits Elmira and Coquille is at Gold Beach while Brookings-Harbor hosts Illinois Valley.
On Tuesday, Bandon’s baseball and softball teams see their first action at home against Riddle. Coquille hosts Oakland in softball while Reedsport is at Lowell. Myrtle Point’s baseball team is at Elkton and its softball team at Illinois Valley.
Tuesday also sees the first golf of the spring for the South Coast, with Bandon at Tokatee.
The first track meets involving South Coast teams are Wednesday, with Reedsport and Myrtle Point at the Run for the Clover in Waldport and Siuslaw at the Pleasant Hill Icebreaker.
Spring is also the season for boys and girls tennis, sports offered by Marshfield and North Bend. Philomath’s girls visit the Bay Area teams on Friday and North Bend’s boys travel north to face the Warriors the same day.
The final winter sport to conclude, Dance, has its championships at the end of the week, with Marshfield competing Friday and Saturday in Portland.
