Reedsport’s boys basketball team got the season off to a strong start Wednesday, topping host Elkton 58-36.

Korde Parmenter had 16 points for the Brave and Dallas McGill and Tyreece Gardner added 13 each in the road win.

Brad Doudna has 17 points for Elkton.

Reedsport is back in action Friday with a home game against Oakland.

Douglas 67, Myrtle Point 34: Douglas spoiled the debut of new Myrtle Point boys basketball coach Jamil Wynn, beating the host Bobcats in the season opener for both schools Wednesday.

Quinden Parson had 18 points for the Trojans, who jumped out to a 20-8 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Damon Landry had 13 and Andy Schofield 10 for Douglas.

Cody Sears had seven points for the Bobcats and Jack Isenhart, Josh Shinn and Isaac Warner added five each.

Wynn is a former Myrtle Point standout who also helps coach the football team.

Creswell 52, Siuslaw 41: The Bulldogs beat the visiting Vikings in the season opener for the two teams.

GIRLS

Douglas 57, Myrtle Point 5: The Bobcats managed just two field goals in their home loss to the Trojans to open the season.

Shay Bateman hit a 3-pointer in the first quarter and Madison Brown had a basket in the third for the Bobcats.

Colleen Jackson had 13 points for Douglas, while Lainey Rincon had 12 and Calyissa Anderson 11.

The game was the first for new Myrtle Point girls coach Dale Larsen, who coached the boys team in the past.

Elkton 49, Reedsport 7: Hannah Maxwell scored 16 points and the Elks outscored the visiting Brave 21-0 in the first quarter to roll to an easy win in the season opener.

Kieryn Carnes had 12 points for Elkton. Aspyn Luzier had eight points and six rebounds.

Makenzie Seeley hit a 3-pointer and was Reedsport’s leading scorer with three points.

Reedsport hosts Oakland on Friday.

Creswell 42, Siuslaw 30: The Vikings opened the season with a loss to the Bulldogs on the road.

The game marked the debut of new Siuslaw coach Greg Reynolds.
