North Bend’s boys basketball team won the first of two games in Clatsop County on Monday, topping Astoria 48-42.

Jayden Frank had 25 points and Randy Vader added 11 for North Bend, which got its second straight win after beating Crook County on the final day of the Les Schwab South Coast Holiday Basketball Tournament.

North Bend goes against defending state champion Seaside on Tuesday.

Karsten Johnson had 16 points and Josh Olson added 15 for the Fishermen.

GIRLS

Banks 47, North Bend 34: The Braves topped the visiting Bulldogs in a rematch of last year’s playoff round, when Banks denied North Bend a spot in the Class 4A state tournament.

Haley Snelgrove had eight points for North Bend, which played well against the Braves, last year’s state runner-up. The Bulldogs visit third-place Seaside Tuesday.

Aspen Slifka had nine of her 15 points in the first quarter, helping Banks to an early 15-6 lead. Sydney Gregg scored a game-high 16 for the Braves.
